Community Float

Each Mardi Gras, Selene proudly recognizes various groups in our community by inviting them to ride in our parade on a Community Float free of charge.

Riders are responsible for their throws, however, at our general membership meeting in January we conduct a bead drive to collect throws as donations for the riders.

Some past groups have been:

  • Military Veterans
  • First Responders
  • Educators

2020 COMMUNITY FLOAT

For Mardi Gras 2020, we are proud to announce that our community float will welcome past recipients of the ATHENA Award presented by the East St. Tammany Parish Chamber of Commerce.

The ATHENA Award is presented to one exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in her/his business or profession, has served the community in a meaningful way, and has assisted women in reaching their full leadership potential.

The ATHENA Award, started in Lansing, Michigan in 1982, is presented in hundreds of cities in the United States and Canada.

Slidell began recognizing recipients in 1989 and believes in the values underlying the ATHENA Foundation’s philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities, and our government.
